Niklashausen is located in a place where others make jokes about the countryside. The locals here call it “Baden Siberia”—a village with 380 residents, nestled between Tauberbischofsheim and Wertheim, 80 kilometers from the nearest table tennis training center. Not a place you’d expect to turn an entire region upside down in the world of sports.

And that's exactly what happened.

The Niklashausen Table Tennis School was founded in 2009—with a simple idea: equal opportunities for all talented table tennis players, even those far from major urban centers. Two 10-year-old boys, Jan and Luis, were the first students. Today, 16 years later, Jan Fiederling still plays for SV Niklashausen—he has never played anywhere else. And he plays for the team in the regional league.

What began as a training project for a handful of children has become a talent incubator for an entire region. Young players travel up to 50 kilometers to train at the Pfeiferhalle—a small arena that turns into a cauldron on game nights. Ninety fans or more crowd around the benches, putting opposing teams on the defensive before the first ball is even thrown.
