Promoted — and right in the thick of the Bezirksliga adventure
Who would have thought it: Our second team has made the leap. After a strong season in the Bezirksklasse, their new home is now the Bezirksliga Ost—and with it, the team is entering completely uncharted territory. Whereas in recent years they knew their opponents inside and out, they’re now stepping onto a stage filled with unfamiliar faces.
And the list of these opponents is quite impressive. With TSV Tauberbischofsheim, two teams from SV Adelsheim, TV 1846 Eberbach, Spvgg Hainstadt II, TTC Limbach, VfB Mosbach-Waldstadt, TTC Schefflenz, FC Külsheim III, and FC Lohrbach II—the field is more geographically diverse and, in terms of skill, a whole level higher. Almost all of the opponents are first-time opponents—and that’s exactly what makes this season so special.
There have been some personnel changes. Tobias Pfitzner, a reliable scorer, is leaving the team, and his absence will need to be compensated for. All the more welcome, then, are two new additions who will noticeably strengthen the roster: Joel Seiler and Benedict Behringer are expected to help fill the gap and bring new energy to the team. The team will continue to be led by Luis Freundschig at the number one position, flanked by the experienced Stephan Rist and Heiko Hess, as well as young prospect Benjamin Ries, who shows great potential for the future.
Compounding the challenge is a major rule change: Starting this season, all leagues will be played under the four-player system. Every single point carries more weight, every singles match can decide victory or defeat, and there’s no room left for excuses. This is an additional challenge, especially for a newly promoted team that still needs to find its footing—but it’s also an opportunity, because in a tight four-team race, an upset is possible against any opponent.
The stated goal remains down-to-earth: avoiding relegation. The team is aware of the difficult task ahead and understands its role as a newcomer. But with a healthy mix of experience and youthful ambition, their usual fighting spirit, and the support of the Friday-night fans at the Pfeiferhalle, the second team aims to prove that they’re not just competing in this league—they can hold their own. The Bezirksliga adventure has begun—and Niklashausen is looking forward to it.
